Indian River Clay (IRC) was founded in 2018, as a non-profit organization, to promote creativity, collaboration, growth, and healing through the clay arts. We believe that art, education, and community engagement are paths to a better, more sustainable and equitable future.
In the two years since its inception IRC has grown to 45 members and our classes have drawn 900 students. We have provided programing to local veterans and Girl Scouts, collaborated on projects with the Treasure Coast interfaith community and have created over 1800 bowls for the Samaritan Center’s Homeless Family Shelter fundraiser.
We began our journey in south Vero Beach, in a 1500 sq. foot space we quickly outgrew. In 2020 we moved to our current, 4000 square foot location, which has afforded us a spacious, comfortable new home, better visibility, easier access for our tri-county membership and the ability to provide additional services to our community.
Since its inception, IRC was intended to be a pottery center that would meet the needs of our growing clay community and offer new creative opportunities to the public. Our vision for the future includes expanding what we have already put in place: workshops with nationally recognized artists, classes for children and adults of all abilities, outreach programs to the underserved in our community, and readily available studio space for all members.
Indian River Clay has the potential to join our museums, theaters, and other Treasure Coast cultural centers as a regional arts destination. We have the drive, the expertise, and the dream to be all this and more. We have plans to build raku and gas kilns, as well as experimental wood and soda kilns. We have already invested significant funds and hundreds of volunteer hours. It is time to ensure that 1239 16th Street will be IRC’s permanent home, before investing further resources. We have come this far by basing IRC on sound business principles. Ownership of our building is the next step in this process.
We have already raised $100,000 of the $400,000 needed and have a loan commitment for an additional $200,000. We are now asking you to help us reach our goal, with a generous gift to Indian River Clay. Your support will allow us to purchase our permanent home and will allow Indian River Clay to reach its full potential. In this strange time of pandemic and unrest, an opportunity has presented itself to make our community better. We hope we can count on your support and generosity.
We are a 501c3, not for profit organization, which qualifies your donation for a tax deduction. For more information please call us at 772-202-8598, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or go to our website www.indianriverclay.org, .
