Edu4Indpendence Campaign
We are all aware of a multitude of programs that will tell you they are helping people become “independent.” However, the statistics show that there are a growing number of people coming into our systems and very few people getting out of that system. The definition of independence has evolved from being self sustaining into being maintained in the system while being independent to choose from services within a provider network or within the largely government-funded system. This version of Independence is exactly the opposite of being independent from the system - It actually perpetuates dependence.
How does this happen? We are fortunate to have a system of programs and services available to individuals in need throughout the lifespan. However, many of the folks who run these programs and systems are not incentivized to get people out of the system and on to true independence. In fact, a conflict of interest is created - whereby the system will help people in need to a point, but then maintain these people in the system to consume ongoing and additional services. This conflict of interest and corporate greed ensures both private and public funds continue to support these programs at the expense of tax payers and worse at the expense of vulnerable individuals who are not provided with opportunities to fully progress toward their greatest levels of independence. Vulnerable children, older adults and people with disabilities are often used and potentially abused by the some of the very people who claim to be helping.
YOUR DONATIONS WILL HELP Across the Way - CRC:
- To continue to meet with individuals, families, organizations and government entities to provide education about how the system perpetuates dependence, and what we can do to reverse this trend and eliminate funding waste that can be re-purposed to better meet the changing needs within our communities.
- To develop educational materials, programs and consultation to strengthen individuals throughout our communities to increase self advocacy skills and help them gain or regain as much independence as possible.
- To utilize technology to increase awareness of this national crisis of increased dependence and to strengthen and equip people to reverse this trend for a stronger tomorrow.
- AND MUCH MORE!
WE CANNOT EXPECT THOSE WITH A CONFLICT OF INTEREST TO REVERSE THIS PROBLEM. WE, THE PEOPLE, MUST COME TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! EVERY DOLLAR WILL HELP THOSE WHO ARE VULNERABLE AND ULTIMATELY BENEFIT ALL OF US!
