The 2018 California wildfires were the most destructive on record, with a total of 7,983 fires burning an area of 1,824,505 acres, the largest amount of burned acreage recorded in a fire season. The fires have caused more than $2.975 billion in damages, including $1.366 billion in fire suppression costs. The Camp Fire is now the deadliest fire in state history. Over 150,000 acres burned, nearly 14,000 homes destroyed, 88 lives lost and over 100 still missing.
