Last October 24th, we lost a bright light, a special and unique individual at Holly Avenue School. Dr. Julie Salmon is a beloved teacher, wife, mother, aunt, colleague, and friend. She touched a lot of families during her 32 years here at AUSD. The school received so many phone calls of sympathy and offers to help her family. We at Holly Avenue PTA would like to ask for your help in honoring her. Please contribute to a memorial bench, and to her family during this time of mourning. Julie fought the big C over the last six years. When the cancer came back, the way she broke the news to her friends at school, is that her cancer cells have returned and taken up offices in other parts of her body. The humor in this statement demonstrates the kind of person she was. She brought laughter to every single moment. When her feet hurt from chemo treatment, she grabbed a scooter board from the P.E. bin and scooted around the classroom helping her students. She was a proud and serious Bruin fan. She threatened to be a Trojan only if they can find a cure for her cancer. She was a Dolphin through and through, she wrote the school song: Oh, Holly Avenue! Reminding everyone that this is the place to be, that everyone will work together to do their very best, and Dolphins they'll always be. She lived that every day. Up to the last day she taught on Friday, October 23rd. She did what she loved and what she did best: teaching. We are very fortunate to have known her. Even the families that knew her only from the start of this schoolyear, all said they were lucky to have her as their child's teacher even for a short time. In memory of Julie Salmon, we thank you for reading this and for your contribution.
