Neither my Mom nor my brother Tim ever asked why me. Instead they asked why not me. They accepted the lopsided challenge that is brain cancer. That's the type of true warriors they were in life. There was never one day I saw them complain even during some of their worst days on earth. Instead charging forward to fight with courage, dignity, and humor. We laughed a lot in the face of tragedy. We had some of the most beautiful, interesting conversations during those times.
As I think about the things my Mom has missed seeing and I've missed sharing with her in the past 27 years it is painful but nothing that other families have not experienced. We are NOT unique.
As I think about what my brother Tim will miss seeing as he has been gone for almost 4 years now is precious family moments which meant everything to him. Touchstones like his son Liam graduating H.S. and college. Liam's games as he loves sports as much as his Dad did. The ND passion lives on! Liam eventually marrying and having children of his own. His beautiful wife Karen courageously moving forward honoring Tim's memory to make this world a better place and continuing to be the wonderful, caring, selfless Mother she was always meant to be.
Unlike many national charities, Cancer League of Colorado doesn't take anything away from donations to pay for offices, salaries and other expenses. 100% of your donation goes directly to cancer research, patient services, and new this year, first stage clinical trials.
