Our father was diagnosed with AML 2.5 years ago. We watched him undergo chemotherapy and finally achieve remission. He was then one of the lucky ones who found a matched related donor in his brother. One large battle down we moved onto the next and supported our strong and brave father as he underwent his stem cell transplant. After the initial trials and tribulations post transplant we were blessed with 2 wonderful years with our father during which he flourished.
Unfortunately shortly after his 2 year post transplant anniversary, the sudden and agressive onset of treatment refractory GVHD took the life of our father. We lost him too soon. In his memory and fighting spirit we honor him now to continue to find answers to help present and future warriors of AML and all those suffering from post transplant complications to hopefully fight on to the next battle and ultimately win the war against this devestating disease process.
