It is with profound sadness that we learned of the unexpected passing of Prudence L'Heureux on June 17, 2021. She was cherished and loved by many throughout the Truckee-Tahoe community, greater Northern California region, and across the country and world.
Prudence brimmed with brilliance, and sought to live each moment with joy and happiness. She was a familiar friend to any high-country trail or running route, and she relished training for the many races she'd won or podiumed - such as the Headlands 50 Mile, Miwok 100 Kilometer and Angeles Crest 100 Mile to name a mere few. During the winter months, her smile and everpresent kindness warmed even the chilliest of Nordic ski days. Her passion for the outdoors and sharing it with others was incomparable.
As a way to honor her memory, Prudence's friends have partnered with the Truckee Donner Land Trust to help raise funds to place a Prudence L'Heureux bench within the Royal Gorge trail network. Since 1990, TDLT has not only preserved nearly 40,000 acres of open space, but has also built trails, manages a campground, and has created numerous opportunities for the public to access and enjoy these lands.
All funds raised would contribute toward Prudence's bench; any funds beyond the goal would be donated to TDLT. Thank you for considering a contribution.
Please go for a walk, hike or run on Sunday, August 15 to remember Prudence. Friends will pause at 8 a.m. PST (11 a.m. EST) to celebrate her life, tell a story, say a prayer, and send her our love.
We miss you and love you, Prudence. We hope and know your soul is both with us as well as free.
