In honor of Carl Ellis, gone but never forgotten.
Please help me honor Carl Ellis by supporting the production costs of LAST OUT, a film about the cost of war as told by those who lived it.
This film production is turning the LAST OUT story into a tool that is both valuable and timeless. LAST OUT is being shown through in-person and virtual watch parties across the United States this Memorial Day weekend to honor those men and women who have given all for our country.
The Heroes Journey Story
The Heroes Journey helps military veterans find their voice and tell their story in their transition from military to civilian life. Our services include therapeutic storytelling and narrative competence workshops, social connection gatherings, online learning courses, and books on transition.
The most notable project The Heroes Journey took on between 2018 and early 2020 was producing the national tour of the play Last Out: Elegy of a Green Beret. Last Out was written by Scott Mann after he’d reached the lowest point in his own struggles with transition after 23 years in the military.
“I've experienced trauma as a former Green Beret and combat veteran. I went through my own struggle with depression and transition challenges. In fact, I almost took my own life six years ago. After two decades of service I came home to a world I didn't recognize, inhabited by people who didn't seem to know the first thing about me. When I reached the lowest point in my struggles with transition I turned to written story as a form of therapy. I realized that although the story was mine, I was talking about the frustrations of hundreds of thousands of transitioning military members. I found story as a way to close those transition gaps and help heal the wounds of war.”
Sadly, COVID grounded us and we are unable to share this message with the warriors who need it the most right now. With the social distancing required to battle the virus leaving veterans feeling isolated and cut off from their support systems, we need to tell the Last Out story. But in this time of uncertainty and growing isolation, the play is not enough.
What if we can do better?
Together we can!
The story of LAST OUT has been stitched together by our amazing production team for a limited Memorial Day weekend release. The full release will be September 11th as the last out leave Afghanistan on the 20th anniversary of 9-11.
But we can't do it without you. My ask is simple. Help us tell this story of modern war in a way that’s never been told, in a voice that's never been heard - the voice of veterans and military families.
We will honor those men and women who have given all for our country and send a love letter to the Gold Star families to let them know they are not forgotten.
I would appreciate your donation at any level to help me contribute $5000 toward the production costs of Last Out.
Thanks so much for your help in reaching my goal.
