CO/LAB Theater Group is a nonprofit organization that provides individuals with developmental disabilities a creative and social outlet through theater arts. In just 9 years, CO/LAB Theater Group has grown from a single class serving 13 actors to a full roster of programs serving over 200 actors with developmental disabilities each year. In the past year alone, we have added a sixth weekly class, partnered with organizations across New York to provide customized programming, expanded leadership opportunities for veteran actors with developmental disabilities, and presented original plays devised with our ensemble.
We know these are not ordinary times for fundraising, but the need for support is greater than ever. Because of our supporters, and the success of our past annual crowdfunding campaigns, we have had the ability to respond to our current public health crisis in extraordinary ways, including:
> launching a digital semester of CO/LAB to keep our actors engaged through at-home activities and live interactive classes;
> surveying our actors so that we could build the most accessible programming possible;
> and supporting our Teaching Artists and staff by maintaining our payroll and by creating an emergency fund to support our Teaching Artists during lapses in their creative employment.
This flexibility to experiment with our programming and meet the needs and interests of our ever-expanding community is only possible because of the funds raised through this campaign each year.
This year is particularly special, because our campaign culminates on CO/LAB’s birthday—the official kickoff of our 10th anniversary season. If you are able to donate to CO/LAB today, please consider helping us celebrate this important milestone in our organization's history. A donation in any amount will be an invaluable way to ensure that our first 10 years are just the beginning.
