Just look at those photos -- they're the flattering ones! Marathons are a lot of brutal work, and they need motivation. The Immigration Project provides outstanding motivation, and here's why:
You can look it up in my own published research -- legal resources for immigrants and anybody marginal are thin outside of the nation's largest cities. The Immigration Project is the only not-for-profit with staff attorneys in downstate Illinois. It does important work for people who need it. The work is vital, but mundane. It lacks glamor and grabs no headlines. That means it typically lacks funding. We have a tremendous chance to make this better.
I started fundraising late, so my goal is a modest $1,000. This year, I am working extra hard for it. I have put in several hundred miles and tested my family's patience, all to realize my goal of finishing in 3:10 or less. I can't promise I'll do it, but I welcome the extra motivation of being accountable to the people who are contributing to The Immigration Project on my behalf.
