Immigration strengthens our global image, our principles, and our economy. One in six Massachusetts residents and one in five workers is foreign-born. Immigrants create a stronger America, and in turn, America must help its immigrants.
Recent global trends such as armed conflict, environmental catastrophes, and persecution have caused millions of individuals and families worldwide to flee their homes for their safety. The refugee crisis is becoming a global phenomenon that is the largest refugee crisis since World War 2, with 24 individuals forced to flee their home every minute (UNHCR).
Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) is New England’s largest coalition dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of immigrants and refugees. MIRA is a coalition founded in 1987 and has expanded to comprise of 130 organizational members. This organization is a reliable source of information for policymakers, advocates, the media, and refugee and immigrant communities.
MIRA works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people, and host communities. They directly empower immigrant communities by supporting their efforts and amplifying their voices at state and national levels. MIRA is committed to providing education and training, leadership development opportunities, institutional organizing, as well as policy analysis and advocacy to create long-lasting, tangible impact on the people they serve.
