Hello Friends, Family, and Fans!
On Tuesday, March 16 at 8:30 PM PT, I am performing in the Imago Music Festival, a live streaming festival benefitting United Friends of the Children, an amazing nonprofit organization committed to assuring foster youth have successful futures.
There are over 30,000 foster youth in Los Angeles County, and I am honored to use my music to make a difference in their lives. My first job out of college was working as a mentor to young adults who had grown up in "the system," without that priceless family foundation many of us take for granted, and I've seen the toll that tough childhoods can take on individuals. Poverty, homelessness, mental health issues, and incarceration are cyclical without proper community support. The root of instability begins in adolescence, so I'm happy to fundraise for an organization that provides vulnerable youth with housing, education, mentorship, career counseling, and other services that empower participants to take charge of their destiny.
36% of foster youth become homeless within 18 months of aging out of foster care. 56% of LA County foster youth do not graduate from high school and less than 3% earn a college degree. 51% of foster youth are unemployed. One in four foster youth are incarcerated within two years of aging out of foster care, and 30% of California prison inmates have spent time in foster care.
Please consider chipping in to support an organization committed to lowering those statistics by helping foster youth beat the odds against them. Then, join me online at the Imago Music Fest on March 16 to celebrate the collective good we have achieved through our individual acts of kindness.
The festival will be streaming at youtube.com/ImagoMusicFestival. Can't wait to play for you!
