IDA began in 1965. New River Valley parents who had children with intellectual disabilities wanted them to have choices other children enjoyed – whether for a job or recreational or social activities.
IDA has always been proud to say we don’t receive state or federal funds. That way, there are no hurdles or questions to prevent someone’s involvement when they say they would like to participate in IDA activities.
IDA’s current financial situation is dire due to the loss of funds due to COVID restrictions on fundraising,
