My name is Ian Golden. I am running my first Boston Marathon for leukemia awareness and the Health care heroes fund. About four and a half years ago a life long friend was brought to the hospital with suspicion of something horribly wrong. It was hard to believe but, he was later diagnosed with leukemia. He went through multiple treatments of chemotherapy and procedures in an attempt to beat leukemia. After a long and corageous battle he passed away on August 2, 2016. I had never seen such a high spirited, brave and inspiring person despite all visits short and extended to hospitals, chemotherapy and multipe procedures. My father-in-law was also recently diagnosed with leukemia; despite this he is still tending to his vast garden, taking care of his tomatoes and peppers. These two men are truly inspirational to me. I should also mention the motivation that comes from the brave men and woman on the front lines battling the current COVID-19 pandemic who I will also be running in honor of. Many are unaware of the long hours, dedication and selflessness of these individuals in the healthcare proffesion at this grueling time. I thank you in advance for your generosity.
