I have always thought that cancer sucks, and I want to help stop it. I have seen what cancer does to people. While I have not personaly had it, my grandma had it, my grandpa has it. and my teacher has it.
Our family has been greatly affected by cancer this year. A few years ago, Ian's Oma was diagnosed with lung cancer. She is now on a maintainence medication and doing fine. Ian saw her when she was going through chemo and radiation. He saw the effects that it had, mainly her hair loss. Last spring his Pop was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He is currently taking chemo. Treatment will not get rid of this for him. It will hopefully slow it's progression, and give us more time to spend with him. At the beginning of the school year, Ian found out that his social studies teacher, Mrs. Maynard, has breast cancer. She was out a lot at the beginning of the year, but has been able to return to teaching. Recently, I found out about another teacher at Ian's school who was diagnosed with breast cancer just before Christmas.
Ian has asked to do fundraisers for a couple of his birthdays in the past. He truly wants to help people. I think this fundraiser is a bit more meaninful for all of us just because of how much we have been affected by cancer. Ian truly wants to make a difference. We hope that you will consider donating to the American Cancer Society as a birthday gift to Ian.
