My dog Rita Marley and I have committed to run 100 miles in the next 4 weeks to raise money for Legacy of Hope. If you know either of us, you know that we are not early risers and we prefer to cuddle on the couch and share chips. Running together hasn't worked out too well yet (but we are working on it). Let's just say we don't usually share the same goal. I want to exercise but she prefers to chase chipmunks and pee on every plant. I pull her to the turnaround, then she drags me all the way to the car because at some point, hours before, I promised her chicken when we get home.
But this time, we are united! We want to help this wonderful, small organization in Philadelphia who has helped so many cancer patients and their families. They help with groceries, electric bills, and prevent eviction. Medical expenses are outrageous but imagine having to worry about lack of food or not being able to provide for your family because you are too sick to work.
Legacy of Hope partners with area organizations to provide as much as possible to patients. They even have the Philly police department delivering food to patients. Especially after all the unrest about the police around the country, how amazing is it that our city officers are visiting communities and delivering food to them?
They also fund cancer research which could benefit any of us in the future. I hope the ones I love never hear the words "you have cancer," but if it happens, I am so glad that I live in an area with so many wonderful medical resources and people who care. Will you join Rita and me?
