Most of us remember that day when we opened our mailbox to find that oversized envelope. We knew right then and there that our college dreams were about to become reality. We had “gotten in!”
Every year, through our College Access Program, the Philadelphia Education Fund guides more than 1,270 low-income public high school students through a four-year journey that aims to get them to that day - when they can proclaim, “I got in!”
This Spring, as the acceptance letters arrive, more than 95% of our students will be able to declare, “I got in.” Unfortunately, for the majority of our students that moment of celebration is quickly followed by the words: “And, now what?”
What if I can’t afford to go? Will I have enough for tuition? For room and board, books, dorm room essentials, activities fees…for the cost of getting to and from campus?
The doubts go beyond money. Will I fit in? Where can I turn for advice? No one in my family went to college. How can I balance studying and working? What if I struggle?
This Spring, join us in helping students go from “I got in!” to “I’m going!” by supporting the critical work of the Philadelphia Education Fund – your donation will help students get the support they need to evaluate financial aid packages, select their “best fit” college, connect to CAP alumni attending their prospective college, and identify and secure additional scholarships, such as PEF’s Philadelphia Scholars Last Dollar Scholarship which bridges the gap between a student’s financial aid award and the actual cost of attendance.
Help a Philadelphia student make the journey from “I got in!” to “I’m going!”, and support the good work of the Philadelphia Education Fund, by donating now.
