On June 29, 2018, my incredibly kind, active, and wonderful husband Dan was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. An avid runner, soccer player, and soccer referee, the diagnosis hit us like a freight train out of nowhere. We had barely been married for two years when this devastating blow rocked our lives. Dan withstood seven hard months of chemotherapy trying to delay as long as possible the cruel reality of this type of cancer. On January 22, 2019, he left this world and those of us who loved him dearly to carry on in his memory.
During our honeymoon in Costa Rica, a love of hiking and being outdoors took root within us. We talked of future hikes and travel plans we wanted to make. I often told Dan that I wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, to take in the beautiful views together. As he progressed through his chemo treatments, we hoped maybe a remission was ahead and we could finally take that trip.
In honor of Dan and his memory, I am joining Project Purple to hike one of the wonders of the world in the Grand Canyon and fulfill that trip we never got to take. Our group will be hiking for all those battling and lost by pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is projected to be the second most cause of cancer deaths by 2020. Your help can give Project Purple the means to continue fighting to change that by supporting this team of hikers.
Please support me in raising funds for patient finanicial aid and medical research in hopes that one day pancreatic cancer is no longer the death sentence it was for my beloved husband Dan. Thank you!
