The Wildflower Alliance (formerly known as the Western Massachusetts Recovery Learning Community and under the umbrella of the Western Mass Training Consortium) began offering Friends & Family groups via Zoom as part of the Hearing Voices Network in August of 2019. We did so in collaboration with a small group of friends and family across the country.
Too often, friends and family have been left with no support at all, or with only very limited options operating from a strictly medicalized perspective. Alternatively, Friends & Family groups belonging to the Hearing Voices Movement are open to all perspectives. They don't assume that voice hearing (or seeing visions or an array of related experiences) is necessarily a sign of illness. Friends and family members in these groups often report that the support received in navigating fears and societal assumptions often opens up richer communication and trust with their loved ones. (Learn more about the Hearing Voices approach here or watch the film embedded above, Beyond Possible: How the Hearing Voices Approach Transforms Lives, produced through a collaboration between the Wildflower Alliance, Mount Holyoke College, and Open Excellence.)
The Hearing Voices Network Friends and Family groups represent an unfunded initiative that we would love to expand, an initiative currently supported by the voluntary donations of participants.
This page can be used for participants in the groups - or anyone else - to make a donation to support this important work. For participants, we recommend a sliding scale of $10-30/session or $40-120/month. However, this recommendation is only for those who can afford it; the Wildflower Alliance prides itself on providing services to all regardless of financial means. We are grateful above all to have groups infused with your revolutionary energy! Thank you for your thoughtful, generous contributions (not just donations) to our community!
