Hurricane Maria has had a devastating impact on our island home of Puerto Rico. The lives of 3 million fellow citizens will still be affected long after the news stops covering this humanitarian crisis. The damage to infrastructure is forecast to leave many families without access to electricity or water well into the year 2018. Many people have been asking us what they can do to help. In response, our three families have decided to create a dedicated fundraiser to achieve maximum impact.
All contributions received from this campaign will be used to help low income students and their families. Donations will be distributed by the Kinesis Foundation, a local Puerto Rico foundation that was started by our parents back in 2004. Kinesis already has a dedicated team that works in the poorest neighborhoods throughout the island. The foundation currently provides free college counseling & technical skill training to over 400 students from 7th-12th grade and college scholarships to over 100 students. Due to the crisis, the funding needs of these families are expected to far exceed available funds. We are humbly asking for your assistance to bridge the gap.
Many of these students were planning on submitting their college applications next month. Now instead they wonder if they will have enough food or if their school will reopen this school year? Your donation will go directly to a scholarship student and their struggling families. The aid will be distributed to the neediest first for things such as home repair, temporary shelter, medical access, and educational support. These are unimaginable circumstances but we are optimistic that together we can make their recovery process more tolerable.
Our initial goal is to raise $250,000 to help up to 500 low income students and their families. Together with Omega Overseas Investments Inc., we will personally match the first $25,000 dollar for dollar. Please note that all charitable contributions to this campaign are federally tax deductible; The Kinesis Foundation is a qualified and audited 501.3 c Public Foundation.
