Help protect Houston healthcare and medical professionals from COVID-19 with 3D printed face shields and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) .
We're dedicating 100% of our efforts and resources towards the production of PPE and need your help to continue forward.
Provide as much protection to our Frontline workers as possible in the fight against COVID-19.
Each donation helps our goal of providing our medical professionals the gear they need to stay safe each and every day.
100% Donations Focused
All of our face shields and PPE that we produce are being donated. We are a non-profit, volunteer based operation and do not & will not charge healthcare professionals for equipment.
3D Printed and CNC Solutions
We are currently providing several different PPE to local medical professionals: face shields, ear strain relief, face mask respirators.
Our makerspace is very small and runs completely off of memberships and donations. Every donation, no matter how small can make a difference. Each donation helps our goal of providing our medical professionals the gear they need to stay safe and comfortable each and every day. We have worked hard to streamline and make the process more labor and cost efficient, bringing the cost of each face shield down to less than $1. Even with these low costs, the demand is immediate and great, so we are trying to produce as much and as fast as we can.
A donation of $20 provides us enough 3d printer filament and other materials required to make over 30 face shields.
A donation of $250 allows us to purchase another 3d printer, which means we can produce at least 10 more face shields per day.
Donations are also being used to provide materials to make ear strain relief devices with our CNC router. Although not strictly necessary for use with n95 masks, we have already delivered hundreds of these devices to happy nurses, pharmacists and paramedics all over Houston who have greatly appreciated them. With your help, we plan to produce and deliver thousands more.
The Humble Makers is a non-profit makerspace in North East Houston. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic we have had to temporarily close our doors to members, but we did not want all of our facility equipment to lay idle when there is a need that we can fulfill. Like many other makerspaces around the world, we saw an opportunity to use our tools and know-how to fill a gap in the medical PPE shortages.
See the difference your generous donations are making. We will provide frequent updates on our progress, costs, and answer any questions the community may have.
Open Source resources we are utilizing
We have gone through several iterations of face shield designs since we started. We have eventually settled on this design based off the Prusa model:
We chose this one for the adjustable elastic strap connector and the ability to use a US 3 hole punch to make the holes for the shield to attach to the headband. Our testing nurses and paramedics also liked this design because of how durable they are.
We were originally 3d printing several different ear strain device designs that we found on Thingiverse, eventually settling on this one:
We have now switched over to using our CNC router to cut these devices out of thin sheets of plastic to ramp up our ability to produce even more of these each day.
We are currently also working with a select group of nurses testing out some face masks/respirators based on this design:
In a later update, we will provide the exact source files we are using, for those who have a 3D Printer and want to join our effort.
From all of us at The Humble Makers, THANK YOU!!!!!!
