We are in the midst of a global crisis characterized by a serious decline in our food and water quality, affordability, availability and diet; all of which has negatively impacted our health and quality of life.
On a global scale, there's climate change, environmental damage, habitat loss, population decline and species extinction… all things caused by man and detrimental to our future.
Vision and Value; "we're going green"! We're expanding because we have grown to love what we do, need more space and think there's a great need for more sustainable practices. We think Sustainable farming is the answer or starting point to, I want to say "all" our problems -- food shortage/food deserts and much, much more.
A sustainable energy source is environmentally friendly, hence a cleaner atmosphere. Sustainable business practices have a positive impact on society, economy, and communities. The bigger picture, sustainability is the answer to a lot of world issues.
Simply, we believe "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". “If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you!” Think of the times in which we're living, don't we need more farm-to-table in our communities; more people who understand the need and importance of sustainable living?
What is sustainability? Natural balance and purification; reduce, reuse and recycle. An ecosystem, a lifestyle, or a community that is sustainable is one which supports itself and its surroundings. It interfaces harmoniously with existing natural systems and natural culture. It is a healthier and more wholesome way of livng life to its fullest. Sustainability is a sound investment for a better quality of life now and a rock-solid commitment to and for future generations.
Why sustainability? We cannot maintain our quality of life as human beings without acknowledging the diversity of life on Earth and it’s ecosystems, unless we embrace sustainability, food safety and security. We must also ensure our committment to a sustainable lifestyle lives beyond us.
A NATION THAT DESTROYS ITS SOILS DESTROYS ITSELF. FORESTS ARE THE LUNGS OF OUR LAND, PURIFYING THE AIR AND GIVING FRESH STRENGTH TO OUR PEOPLE.~ FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
Going Green? Green matters! We all want to figure out how to reduce our carbon footprint and the harm which has already been done? HFR pursues knowledge and practices which lead to more environmental freindly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyle, to help protect our environment and sustain our natural resources for current and future generations. Going green is a huge money saver. The initial investment might be expensive but in the long run, going green will more than pay for itself. Think, Change, Get Involved and Spread Awareness.
Humble Farm Refuge, INC is expanding and we need $10,000 to make this happen, really more but we're starting here and we sincerely appreciate your interest. We would love for you to be a part of our unique urban farming/teaching, fundraising experience. Let us know how important it is to keep this kind of fundraising going.
Currently, we are a small urban family farm, located downtown, farming “.34 acre” area, includes a house, woodworking shop, outdoor kitchen, which serves as a space for guests who tour the farm; shelter, food prep and brainstorm more innovative solutions, all of which sits on less than an acre.
Those who visit say it is awesome, nothing like they have ever experienced. They talk about how important it is for us to have a simple meeting of the minds and we've hosted some very "intellectually stimulating guests". They thank us for their opportunity to reconnect to themselves. We've helped so many who thought they were on the right road, but didn't think of US.
We create an atmosphere conducive to having a great time, reminding us to focus on more than ourselves, try fixing yourself for once! Did you get it?
We spend so much time and effort trying to fix everybody's problem but our own. We're so obessessed, angry, distracted, self-obsorbed...we just cannot find time to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We look for others to provide what we fail to provide to and for self.
This raises a lot of questions particularly in the minds of individuals not conscious about sustainability. Hope you get the importance and sincerity of our project now!
From this we have evolved into a micro-urban farm, specializing in “specialty crops”. We grow seasonal vegetables, fruit trees, have raised beds, hydroponics, chickens, honeybees, vermiculture and much, much more. We are also a 501c3, which focus on veterans, seniors and disable. Our mission: “Change Through Agriculture: Sustainability, Passion and Interdependence”

Hi, I’m Art Thomas, founder of Humble Farm Refuge, INC and know I cannot complete this important task without the support of likeminded individuals like you and would like to "thank you" in advance for your support of HFR projects. By adopting eco-friendly habits we are able to fill our lives with the satisfaction of contributing to the Earth's well-being. By leading a life that is healthy, mindful, and fulfilling, we become happier people.
Because we have out-grown our current location and have a strong desire to better serve, seventeen (17) acres have been identified, (see wooded photos) zoned agriculture.
Developing this kind of land is a monumental task, due to the dense undergrowth; however, we are willing to take on this challenge. This money will be used to help purchase the property, farm vehicle/equipment, construct roads, trails, root cellar and drainage pond. We must dig wells, build three barns and install utilities.
We are excited to acquire this property and begin work, ASAP. The property is located in Baldwin County, GA which is 15 miles away from our original farm.
HFR feels projects like this are not an option but a necessity for the survival of a community. We need to know more about our food, who produces it and from where it comes. You can also take advantage of this opportunity to learn for yourself.
The Refuge component addresses “the need to be prepared for any disaster”, for our own safety and security. Furthermore, at least one acre will be set aside for public access, flea/farmers market, and farm to table.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 ASAP! Your donation is an investment, a message of hope, builds hope and an inclusive environment where we act to solve our challenges. We sincerely appreciate donations of any size, share this link, join us!
My gift to you: When you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe, you will be a great success!
Agriculture is a necessary component of all cultures, on which our future depends; better health, food security and safety. Help reserve a spot for you and future generations.
Help keep HFR strong, please donate now!
Thanks for being YoU!---Art
