For the past 15 years, the Chinatown Bike-a-thon has been the Chinese Youth Initiative’s biggest community event & fundraiser! For our 16th year, we are excited to share in the Bike-a-thon spirit with you through our virtual community events, movement challenge, and week of action!
As Hot Pot Fiends for CYI Teens, Reina, Sophie, and Ashley will each be completing a marathon this week. Reina will run, Sophie will run + bike, and Ashley will skate + bike! Support us in raising funds for the Chinese Youth Initiative & taking on our competition, the Dim Sum Lovers team!
The funds raised from the Chinatown Bike-a-thon directly support youth programming. The Chinese Youth Initiative (CYI) provides internship opportunities to high school aged youth from the Greater Boston area, combining an Asian American Studies curriculum with hands-on community service and organizing projects.
For more than 20 years, CYI youth have played crucial roles in the campaign for a Chinatown library, voter registration drives, support for immigrant workers’ rights, establishing the first Chinatown Youth Platform, advocating for public transit and much more. This year, they’ve taken the lead in creating bilingual materials to address anti-Asian violence. CYI interns are learning history and building a political community to support workers, tenants, and elderly residents.
Let's continue to support youth as they open up opportunities to invest in and lead the community!
