On May 10, our world lost the kindest of souls who was dear to us all. Dean HP was a legacy to so many of us from Camp Couchiching in the 80s and early 90s. He and his brother Dave were instrumental in initiating the windsurfing program, which had never existed at our camp until their time.
Dean’s family has asked that to honour Dean, we should all do something kind in his memory. Our beloved Camp has opted to go one step further. To honour Dean, Camp Couchiching has a vision for a brand new windsurfing facility including a new program centre with a deck for dry land training, and new windsurfers. This centre will be named in Dean’s memory.
Of course COVID has created challenges for all summer camps this year, but we are all hopeful we can make this new windsurfing facility in Dean’s honour a reality.
Dean, you are loved and missed, and there will never be another like you! ❤️
Camp Couchiching was established in 1946 and is a registered charitable organization. Our main operation is Summer Camps both day and overnight programming. Thousands of youth have joined us over the years and strong connections to each other remain even when time comes to move away from Camp itself. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive community and strive to learn/do more to make sure that our beloved Camp experiences lots of diversity. In 2020, we lost the ability to operate our Camp because of governmental closures of overnight camps. The Camp needs significant support to fund our most basic costs like insurance, hydro, etc.
