In 1988, Howard Hanna began our annual campaign to raise money for the Free Care Fund at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The first fundraising event was a 'potluck' luncheon held at the Howard Hanna corporate office. Everyone in the community was invited to attend along with clients, family and friends. It was a big success! So, the next year, "Chow Chow" events were held at all ten Howard Hanna offices. The name "Choo Choo Chow Chow" was chosen to evoke the image of a train moving from stop to stop, reminiscent of the way the lunches moved from office to office.
30 years later, the campaign and company have grown to the point that we have hundreds of Chow Chow events and the campaign raises more than $1 million per year!
We have added children's hospital partners as we have expanded into new regions. To date, the Howard Hanna Children's Free Care Fund has donated more than $16 million to children's hospitals and related programs or activities in the markets we serve.
This year, the York Office of Howard Hanna is hosting a walk-a-thon. Our agents will walk or run 5k to raise money for the Children's Free Care Fund! Support us today!
