In Houston we'll be running for Amelia from Senegal, a country in Western Africa. Read her story: Amelia lives with her mother, grandmother, and four siblings in Dakar, the capital and largest city of Senegal, on the west coast of Africa. Her father is a mason and found work in a different city, but visits as often as he can. His job was unstable, and Amelia tells of growing up often going to school hungry. Amelia started having problems after she had to switch schools in high school. It was at that moment that a Young Life leader invited her to club. Viewing the way her Young Life leaders lived their lives made her want to change her life around and start serving others. Now, as a respected woman in her community, she has earned the right to be heard and has the opportunity to express herself for the development of her country. A Young Life leader for three years before she was selected for the Developing Global Leaders program, Amelia is now studying finance with the desire to work for a large institution in order to help those in financial and moral need. She has loved learning about finance since she was a child and hopes her degree will help her support her family and the ministry of Young Life. She is thankful for her positive influence among teenage girls and prays she will continue to be a light for her community and country at large. She will be the first in her family to graduate university.
