Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you so much for looking at my page! As you know by now, I am so excited to be running the 2020 Boston Marathon for Hospitality Homes, who provides free short-term housing in volunteer host homes and donated apartments for families and friends of patients seeking care at Boston-area healthcare organizations. Since 1983, this unique home-away-from-home experience has brought a compassionate response as well as emotional and financial relief to guests in need. Check out their website: www.hosp.org
Running has been one of my joys for a long time, and one of my life goals has always been to run the Boston marathon. When Gabby, Benjamin, Maite (My 3 wonderful children) and I cheered on the 2019 Boston Marathon runners, I never dreamed I would be joining them the next year!
Sam and I have had a tough journey since we decided to temporarily leave the military community and our steady income to move to Boston for him to attend medical school. We packed a moving truck and drove our 3 kids, 2 dogs and my mom to the Northeast. Since arriving, we have faced many difficult circumstances, living in one of the most expensive areas in the country, getting used to the colder weather, and planting ourselves in a new, unknown community. One thing that has been evident through this journey has been our inability to do all of this alone. We have been so fortunate to have an incredibly generous family help us move, provide financial and emotional support, and the wonderful Massachusetts community who has welcomed us with open arms. Without this love and support we would never be able to do these things, and it has opened our eyes to the incredible need that is all around us.
Since arriving in Boston, we have had some amazing opportunities to meet families in need, whether in the hospitals, kids groups, or the community, and providing love and support has been so fulfilling. That’s why I wanted to raise money for this incredible organization. As a mother of 3, I know how vulnerable you can be when one of your children is sick or injured. Boston offers some of the most advanced, life-saving healthcare in the world, treating the most difficult diseases, and accepting the hardest medical cases. Sam constantly brings home stories from the hospital about a family referred from foreign countries, or transferred from out of state, because this is their last hope for a treatment or cure. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to uproot your entire life to bring your sick child here desperate for the best care the world can offer, and separated from your supports of family, community and a home. That’s where Hospitality Homes steps in. They not only save families the financial burden of paying for a place to stay in Boston, they truly offer a compassionate, loving response that provides the financial and emotional relief to some of the most desperate families in the nation and the world. Please take a moment to watch this short video to hear one of their incredible stories: http://hosp.org/nbc-nightly-news-lester-holt
