Help us create our dream music and technology center for teens.
Hopewell Music is partnering with North United Methodist Church to create the Webber-Camden Youth Center. Hopewell utilizes music to enrich lives and empower the community, addressing the lack of music education experiences throughout North Minneapolis by fostering a vibrant and prideful arts community where music education is both accessible and relevant. There is a demand on the Northside for a youth center and recording studio. We believe that this demand from the community must be heard and responded to, as this community deserves access to the same opportunities as better served parts of Minneapolis. The closest tech centers and studios to the Webber-Camden neighborhood require significant transportation, which is preventing youth in North Minneapolis from receiving equal arts access.
Wondering what the Webber-Camden Youth Center will look like? Here is our vision: A free, drop-in music and technology center available for youth ages 12-19 to be a part of after school. WCYC will encourage creativity, expression, and discovery by providing youth access to professional music technology and software at no cost. Not only will youth be able to explore their musical ideas and passions, they will also be part of a supportive community, learn tech and arts skills, and have the option to receive homework help! There will also be a paid Teen Tech Squad who will design and lead workshops, organize equipment, assist others, and run a teen advisory board.
The Webber-Camden Youth Center will provide the youth in the neighborhood with a place to express their sound and voice. We dream that WCYC will grow into a positive expression of north-side teen voice. The WCYC represents a place where teens can take pride in their neighborhood and ownership of their art. By being part of the youth center, the teens themselves will learn to give back to their community, employing the tools and values they learn along the way.
We need your help to make our dreams a reality. Hopewell is a dedicated advocate for equal arts access in North Minneapolis.
