I'm raising money in support of Project Hoeppner, a charity started by a wonderful family in the face of the unspeakable, catastrophic loss of their beautiful son to suicide during his senior year of high school.
I will let them speak for themselves here; I ask only that you give what you can to honor Paul's memory and help prevent this pain for other families.
"What exactly is Project HOePpnEr?
We're not quite sure. Frankly, we’re still trying to survive the catastrophe of losing our youngest son and little brother. Primarily, we want to share Paul's story, our story, We hope to promote conversation and awareness for teens like Paul and loved ones like us... those who fail to recognize the shadow of darkness that disguises itself as normal adolescent growth and development.
Hopefully, Paul’s death is a doorway we can open, to facilitate such conversation. Share our story, please.
And already it is happening! Because our story is your story too. Everyday we see evidence of Paul's light: we see YOU caring, hoping and loving; connecting, speaking and listening. You are making a difference and we are grateful. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for helping us give meaning to Paul's life and death.
Thank you for spreading light.
As the days become months and the months become years, we are letting Paul guide us. We’re also letting you guide us. Project HOePpnEr is intended to support ideas for teens, by teens. The love you share with each other means more when it comes from you. It may show up in the form of a word on a T-shirt. It may be grounded on a granite bench in our community. It may echo in the quiet of a luminary walk, or in the laughter of a rowing event. It may even hold up another family affected by suicide.
Life is difficult, especially now. It is brave to ask for help and if we wrap ourselves in friendship, together we can be less scared. Together, we make a difference.
We are all Project HOePpnEr. Guide us. Share our story. Spread light. "
