Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, food banks across the United States are being forced to shut their doors in order to follow social distancing guidelines. However, just because the food banks are closed does not mean that people stop needing food. In Northeast Florida alone around 330,000 people are food insecure on a daily basis, and that number is only going to grow as schools, food banks, and companies begin to shut down as a result of the pandemic.
This problem, however, does have a solution. Feeding Northeast Florida has been working to sort more food and package more meals since the pandemic began, but, due to social distancing guidelines, they have been running low on volunteers. This virtual food drive serves as a way to help out without having to leave our homes. For every $2 raised, one meal can be provided to a food insecure family in Northeast Florida. This means that, at our goal, we will be providing 250 meals to food insecure families across Northeast Florida.
No parent should have to wake up not knowing how they're going to feed their kids.. No chlld should have to wake up not knowing where their next meal is going to come from. And none of us should feel unable to help just because we're being encouraged to stay indoors. I implore you all to use this extra time that we have at home to make a difference in our community. $2 = 1 meal for one family to worry a little less about what they're going to put on their plates.
