1.7 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year in the United States. My mom was one of those people in 2013. Many of these people find themselves in hopeless situations in hospital rooms and homes across the country. Phil’s Friends provides hope through the distribution of hand-assembled care packages to those affected by cancer and their families, and consistent ongoing support through Cards of Hope and prayer.
This year I will be volunteering with Phil's Friend's Hope to Hospitals program. This program is designed to bring support and hope to every cancer patient, caregiver, and family member we have the opportunity to connect with. I will be volunteering my time at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
When a person is in the hospital, they constantly have people coming in and out of their room for tests, blood draws, etc. It is especially difficult when those in the hospital have few family members or friends who are able to visit them. Our goal is that when we knock on their door, a patient looks up, sees a smile and a gift – and they also see hope.
I know it meant the world to my mom to be surrounded by people who cared about her the person. Not just Ann 9.20.1957 the cancer patient.
Phil's Friends is operated solely on donations and I am raising money in honor of my Mom's birthday. Please consider donating to this organization.
Cancer is Strong. But HOPE is stronger!
