I am running the 2020 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon onSunday, March 15, 2020 to raise funds for Hope For The Warriors. This non-profit organization was founded by military families based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC in 2006 as they witnessed, firsthand, the impact war has on service members and their families. Nationally, Hope For The Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families who are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources.
From a personal perspective, I’m running in honor of my 75-year old father, Major David Gavin, who served 1/3 of his life in the armed forces. My father taught me many valuable lessons, most importantly finding ways to help and give back to others, and I consider it second nature to do so. I feel that if he willingly gave 25 years of his life to support his country, I can run 13.1 miles in support of a cause that supports the military and their families.
While being grateful for the sacrifices that service members make for our country, it is the sacrifices that we don’t see that are the most difficult. Please support me in my effort to help Hope For The Warriors by going to the link below and making a donation. With your support, I know we WILL meet our goal!
