It would be difficult to even count the number of times over the past few months that I have heard the phrase, “We are all in this together." Regardless of the emotions this phrase evokes in you, in one sense it is accurate. This pandemic has affected every nation in one way or another. Uganda has had its own unique set of challenges, as many of you know. Due to the COVID lockdowns, people who were already financially vulnerable have now come face to face with starvation. But because of your generosity, Twezimbe has been able to distribute food packs to over 1,000 people (about 225 families)! We have done several food distributions over the past couple of months. (Pictures above) The food has been going to families in need within a 4km radius of Twezimbe’s headquarters, within the impoverished Kireka community. Now, as the government of Uganda begins to ease some restrictions, we are shifting our focus with the food distributions. Many people who had gainful employment before the lockdown now find that they don’t have a job to go back to. Teachers can’t go back to school, boda-boda drivers are still not allowed to operate (a boda-boda is a motorbike that serves as a taxi in Uganda), malls are still closed and their employees are left wondering when and if they will have a job again. Our leaders in Uganda have identified families that are in these lines of work. We are currently shifting our focus to bring them more relief during this time. While others will be able to go back to work, these families will continue to need help for the foreseeable future. Would you consider partnering with us to bring food to these beautiful families? When our local leaders deliver food, they say they are really delivering HOPE along with it. The forgotten feel remembered. The lonely feel loved. The hungry are fed. Join us in bringing hope to Kireka!
