Lucia and I are returning to Northern Ethiopia to work for a week at the Bahir Dir hospital as a celebration of our marriage. We will be working with Dr. Hiwot and her team of nurses and technicians, providing no cost sight restoring cataract surgery and sight saving glaucoma surgery. We hope to perform 400 surgeries, at a cost of $25 each.
Every surgery will forever change the life of the each patient.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal of $10,000! This represents the material cost of providing 400 sight-restoring surgeries. We will be volunteering our time and travel to reach Ethiopia.
Of the more than 39 million people worldwide suffering from unnecessary blindness, more than half are due to cataract – which can be surgically treated. Most of these people live in the developing world, where poor nutrition and limited access to eye care can mean a life limited by needless blindness. Numerous studies have shown that sight restoration with cataract surgery is among the most cost-effective interventions in health care. Since 1995, the Himalayan Cataract Project and its global partners have performed more than 600,000 ophthalmic surgeries in the developing world through improvised mobile eye clinics and high-volume cataract campaigns.
Every donation could not be used in a more powerful way to change the life of another human being.
If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sam and Lucia
