On May 3rd 2017, my father passed away from cancer. He had squamous cell carcinoma that had spread to his bones. He was in a great deal of pain the last year of his life.
While his death was a shock it was not a surprise, as he had a number of health issues including requiring a kidney transplant.
My mother was in excellent health until she started having memory difficulty not long after my fathers death. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The tumor was inoperable and she passed away less than a year after my father's death.
Even before my mothers sickness I was looking for a way to process and grieve my father's passing. With my mother illness and subsequent passing the need was even more urgent.
I found biking to be therapeutic. The more I biked, the more it felt like a way to remember my parents and process the loss.
This is a fundraiser in their memory.
