Imagine the Unimaginable
Imagine you were diagnosed with cancer six months ago. The chemotherapy treatment leaves you sick and exhausted, making it difficult to care for your two children. Your spouse is working and providing support. But it’s stressful. And worrisome. And all consuming.
Then Covid-19 hits. The kids are home from school and need your attention. Your spouse’s hours have been cut back. You’re wondering how you’re going to pay your mortgage and make ends meet. Things were stressful to begin with, with cancer taking up so much of your brain power and physical strength. And now this.
We don’t have to imagine this. This is what the families we serve are facing. Financial stress. Emotional stress. And that’s before Covid-19.
This is where the Holt Brothers Foundation and our partners, KidsCan (a peer support group for children who have a parent with cancer) and Camp Kesem (a summer camp program for children with a parent battling cancer) come in. Aside from providing emotional support to these families, we’re reinventing how we reach them with interactive games, virtual meetings and in the case of Camp Kesem – a virtual camp.
Working with our KidsCan facilitators, the Holt Brothers Foundation is seeking to help those who need us the most by making rent and mortgage payments, supplying gift cards for groceries, paying medical bills, and helping out financially where there is a need.
You can help, too, by donating to our GoFundMe page. At this time, we can’t host fundraisers, our major source of revenue. But we can ask you to help us help those who need our support more than ever. You can click on this link to make a donation, and help us secure a matching grant.
Thank you for your support of the Holt Brothers Foundation and kids who have a parent with cancer. We’re all in this together.
