Join Blackshear Bridge and friends for Love Your Neighbor, a benefit on Sunday, February 10, from 4-7 PM at Tamale House East, 1707 E. 6th Street. The afternoon will include live Latin funk by Ex Romantika, an eclectic silent auction and delicious appetizers by Tamale House East.
Meet Blackshear Bridge members, event hosts, the Hispanic Austin Leadership team, who are helping us to build affordability and unity in Austin’s black cultural heritage district, and special guests including Huston-Tillotson University President Colette Pierce-Burnette and others.
Blackshear Bridge is a 501c3 community-based nonprofit founded in 2014. We are dedicated to creating and maintaining diverse and sustainable communities in Central East Austin.
Two programs – the Friendly Garden Mural plus HOLA Helping Others Live Affordably -- are reaching a crescendo this April 2019.
We need your help.
In March, we will knock on every door in the area with affordability resource information and invitations to workshops to help neighbors stay in their homes. At the workshops, we will teach our neighbors how to challenge their property taxes, file their homestead exemptions, and get help repairing their homes.
In April, we will celebrate the historic birthday of Friendly R. Rice, the former, innovative Blackshear Elementary School Principal. We will unveil a mural commemorating his legacies and bring together past students, faculty, and parents for a special Blackshear Elementary School reunion.
Your sponsorship of $1,000, $500, $250, or $100 to Blackshear Bridge will support the success of these vital efforts to empower long-time neighbors in Central East Austin.
Your generous contribution will help Central East Austin communities to honor the past, while creating an inclusive and affordable future.
