The need for this project has become evident as the Peruvian Outreach Project has watched the experience of young ladies who age out of the Aldea Infantil Virgen del Pilar for the past several years. We have witnessed the impact of the high level of poverty on the young women especially in the rural areas where they have no financial resources or opportunity to continue their studies after high school. Many young women end up with children, whom they are little able to support, at a very young age. This limits their opportunities.
The Hogar (home) Hermelinda will be established to provide a safe home where young women who are highly motivated to continue their studies after high school but whose families do not have the resources to help them can live and study. They will be provided with economic support while they study. They will also work with a psychologist and a house mother to learn life skills.
We already have an established group of professionals prepared and ready to initiate this program. We need funding to rent a house and to purchase all the needed furniture, supplies and materials to initiate the program. We will begin the program with six carefulluy selected young women who are truly interested in elevating themselves and their families out of poverty.
This is an ambitious project which we believe will make a huge difference for many young women once it is established.
