In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Sasha is 9 years old. She and her twin sister Dasha were born at 31 weeks. Sasha stopped breathing and needed to be resuscitated several times in the months following her birth. As a result she has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. The father of the twins left the family before they were a year old. Their mother has been raising them alone ever since.
Her mother recently noticed that Sasha was experiencing severe pain in her right leg. Doctors found that her right hip has come completely out of the socket. The doctors told her that Sasha needs surgery quickly or the pain will become more severe and limit Sasha's mobility.
Her mother reached out to one of our Ukrainian partners, asking for help. She was frightened for her daughter. She knew she could never afford all the costs associated with the surgery. Our partner contacted us immediately. And you guessed it... we said yes! We will help Sasha!
That's where you come in. We need to raise $1900 to cover the cost of the implant, surgical plate, medicines, dressings and consumables needed for the surgery.
Can you help?
