Hope for Veterans is a Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program located in Allentown, PA. It is designed to assist veterans and veteran families who are at risk of homelessness to maintain their housing and to rapidly re-house veteran families who are literally homeless. We currently cover 13 counties in eastern Pennsylvania: Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Montgomery, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Schuylkill, Wayne and Wyoming Counties. Our case managers assist veterans and their families in securing housing and developing a housing stability plan to avert and overcome homelessness, as well as connecting them to other wrap-around services and resources they may need to stabilize their housing. I have been employed at Hope for Veterans for almost 5 years and since nutrition is a passion of mine, I would like to contribute in assisting our veterans’ affordable, nutritious foods. Our staff will put this money toward buying groceries for veteran families and will allow Hope for Veterans to keep ready-to-eat foods available in our Allentown office drop-in center. Additionally, Hope for Veterans is organizing their 3rd Annual Pic-A-Nic to honor veterans in the surrounding community this year and a portion of the funds raised can go toward providing food for this event. During the course of the summer, I will be hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. My goal is to complete 100 of the 229 miles in PA this year. Any amount of monetary donation is greatly appreciated. I will be posting updates of my travels on social media via Instagram @HikeforHunger. Please follow along on my journey and consider sponsoring a mile to help provide nutritious food for our veterans!
