Story

While it’s true that all of us are approaching end of life, for those facing a life-threatening illness, making the most of every precious moment becomes critically important.

Why support it?

To ensure North Shore residents receive the end-of-life care they wish for. To help enhance and grow palliative services and programs on the North Shore so patients with a life-threatening illness can make every day count. To provide support and counselling for families of palliative patients. 100% of the funds raised remain in our community.

Who’s organizing it?

The North Shore Hospice & Palliative Project is organizing this event. The Project raises awareness and funds to support the North Shore Hospice and the Every Day Counts Program which provides non-medical programs and services important to palliative patients such as free counselling, including grief support for children, education and wellness activities like yoga, tai-chi, art and music therapy. The project is associated with Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

Why Sunday, May 3rd?

This is National Hike for Hospice Day when communities across Canada come together to raise much-needed funds for hospice palliative care in their regions and raise awareness of the many challenges faced by hospice palliative care. The phenomenal work that all volunteers and professionals in the field perform daily is also recognized and promoted. The year 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the North Shore Hospice. The Hospice is part of the North Shore Palliative & Supportive Care Program and serves residents throughout North and West Vancouver. Each year, close to 300 patients receive care at the 15-bed Hospice. Hundreds more and their families are supported through the Every Day Counts Program.
