Shelter-in-Place is hard to do when you don't have shelter to begin with.
There is much uncertainty in regards to COVID-19 as we move forward each week but unfortunately one thing remains, individuals still struggle with homelessness and poverty amidst the national crisis. Sadly, the homeless population tends to be one of the most vulnerable to this virus due to their lack of access to healthcare, many pre-existing health conditions and the fact that they cannot simply shelter in place when there is no shelter to begin with.
As the shelter serving Barron County, Benjamin’s House continues to keep our doors open and serve this vulnerable population. We continue to offer case management both virtually and on sight, our staff continues to offer assistance and care 24/7 for residents in shelter, and we continue to support those residents in our Continued Care Program with resources and rent assistance to stay housed. As you can imagine, we have run into several barriers in dealing with the COVID-19 guidelines when it comes to communal living and we are doing our best to introduce additional cleaning measures, social distancing practices and added awareness of symptom diagnosis.
Many decisions in regards to shelter procedures and resident care have been discussed but one thing remains and that is our desire to continue our mission and serve those in need. Your gift will help provide financial support to assist with continued care for those we work with. Providing shelter alleviates one less stress so they can focus on employment and efforts to find permanent housing.
