At West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM), we are helping families with food, financial assistance to pay for their rent or utilities, and with job resources so they can regain their financial stability. We help people of every background, age, and religion, that are facing crisis because of circumstances beyond their control like layoffs, illness, disasters, etc. and who live paycheck to paycheck, unable to handle any unexpected expense or emergency.
Today, Covid19 has affected every industry, especially the service and hospitality industry. People who were already struggling face layoffs, cuts in work hours, and an uncertain future. We started seeing 75 families needing food and financial assistance. Over the past 7 weeks, that number has grown to between 300- 400 families daily (ranging from 850-1600 people per day).
We want to continue being there for them to help them in this unprecedented crisis. We need funds to do this, and to continue our own operations as we have had to postpone 3 important fundraising events affecting our revenue. Additionally, our resale store, which provides a significant part of our monthly operating and program income, has had to remain closed for several weeks, and though it will re-open on May 5, it will be at just 25% capacity. If you are in a position to help, please make a donation of any amount as it will help us to continue to provide to our neighbors in need. Best of all, from now thru May 11 all donations up to $50,000 are being matched dollar for dollar by a generous donor!
