Thousands Of Children And Families Don't Have Access To A Computer: A Nationwide Call For Computer Donations And Funding
In partnership with All About Technology, Center For Creative Arts has launched a nationwide call for computer desktops, laptops, and tablets from corporate and governmental entities and donations from the general public. Due to the global COVID-19 crisis, the demand for affordably priced computers for those in need far exceeds the current available supply.
The need for computers has never been greater. According to the United States Census Bureau, nearly 22% of households in the United States do not own a desktop or laptop computer. 40% of Detroit residents do not have access to the Internet, including 70% of school-aged children. With schools, businesses, libraries, and community centers closed, access to public computers has been eliminated. COVID-19 is exposing an urgent and heartbreaking aspect of the digital divide, as one-fifth of Americans are disconnected from education, telehealth, employment, skills development, and community.
Meanwhile every day, good used computer desktops and laptops end up in a landfill or languish in warehouses as businesses and governments make upgrades. This is a problem that we can fix.
We need your support to reach our goal to provide computers to bridge the digital divide in Detroit. Your donation will help us acquire computer desktops, laptops, and tablets for the community.
If you are interested in donating a computer, click on the button titled EQUIPMENT DONATION, then complete and submit the form. A team member will get in touch with you to work out the logistics.
We will evaluate each item donated to determine operability, make necessary repairs, load Windows 10 and productivity software, and make them available to the community as donations to low-income individuals, schools, and community organizations.
This is a chance for you to feel good about stepping up at a time when the community needs your support.
As a non-profit tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization, a donation to this campaign is 100% tax-deductible.
