Fostering Hope’s Caring Closet opened in March of 2012 with the mission of providing clothing and other items to children coming into foster care. For the first several years, we operated out of a few storage units and the homes of a couple of our volunteers. We received calls from families and caseworkers about the needs of children coming into care and grabbed what they needed out of the storage facilities and delivered it to them.
In March of 2015, we were blessed with the amazing opportunity to sublease part of a building in Carl Junction from Oak Creek Realty. Blood, sweat, tears, and so much love was poured into making this space a place where families and children could come to “shop” for what they need, all FREE of charge thanks to the generous support of our community. So far in 2019 alone, our Carl Junction location has served children in care over 350 times.
We recently found out that the company we have been subleasing from over the past several years will be moving from this building on December 1st. Fostering Hope is faced with the decision of closing this Caring Closet location, trying to find another location, or raising the funds to stay in our current space.
We would LOVE to continue to use our current space to serve foster families and children in care in our community! Thanks to the work of many volunteers, we have a great set-up already on our current side of the building, and this would give us the opportunity to nearly double the amount of space and use the other side for much needed storage as well as a work area for our volunteers.
In order to help offset some of the additional cost we would be taking on, we will be partnering with Bundles of Hope, another great local non-profit that serves the foster care community, to share in some of the space. As our budget is very tight, we are looking to fundraise the additional cost we would be taking on in order to make this dream a reality. The total cost of leasing this space for one year is $7,560. Of that, we are hoping to raise $3,360 which would include the additional $280 per month we would be spending to take on this entire space.
We know this is a BIG ask but we also know that God continues to answer prayers and support our mission through the people of our community. We appreciate all of the prayers and support we receive and promise to continue to do our best to serve our foster care community no matter where we serve.
