GAP Ministries was founded in 1979 as a mission outreach for the city of Augusta. By practicing hospitality with compassion, we have strived to build community by sharing the blessings among the children of God. Over the years the ministries provided by GAP have evolved as the needs of the community have changed, and we have continued to find ways to "fill the gap" between needs and services.
Our ministries currently include the Food Pantry that serves on average of 150 clients each week; prescription assistance provided by registered nurses and licensed pharmacists; photo identification to help clients find work or apply for housing or social assistance; assistance in obtaining birth certificates needed by clients to apply for photo ids or a social security card; a diaper cupboard to provide diapers not covered by Food Stamps or other assistance programs; and bin storage for clients living on the streets, shelters, or are insecurely housed to keep their possessions and important documents.
In 2014, GAP Ministries purchased the former Greene Street Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1906, and created the new Greene Street Mission Center. In order to continue providing these critical services and be in a position to grow our ministries, we need to do renovations to the building to bring it up to code.
We are working on a plan for the complete renovation of the building and the addition of an elevator, the cost of which is $550,000. We have raised $300,000 in grants, but we need your help to fill the gap and raise the remaining $250,000. Much of the work cannot begin until these additional funds are raised.
We ask that you prayerfully consider donating and that you share this information with others to help us reach our goal.
