While the world is dealing with the devastation of COVID-19, we continue to remember and support children who may get lost in this crisis. You can help transform these children’s lives by donating to Small Wonders Foundation on #GivingTuesdayNow.
Please help us raise $10,000 to help Anthony of Southern California, who was born without a left ear and ear canal which caused him to be deaf. His condition is called microtia and aural atresia and it impacts about 600 babies born each year in the United States. Anthony is now 16 years old and he has undergone multiple ear reconstructive surgeries that have left his ear severely disfigured, and in turn he has suffered psychological trauma in the form of teasing and bullying—especially recently.
Small Wonders funds reconstructive surgeries for children born with microtia, hemangiomas, hairy nevi and other differences of the face. The families of these children are often desperate for help because they cannot afford the necessary procedures or have been denied by their insurance company. Many of these same families find themselves even more vulnerable financially due to the effects of COVID-19. With your help, Small Wonders is able to fund these life-changing surgeries for children from around the globe. All surgeries are performed by world-renowned pediatric plastic surgeon Dr. John Reinisch, who donates his expertise to Small Wonders. Our fundraising covers the surgical center, anesthesiology and other fees.
“Talking with Dr. Reinisch about a MEDPOR ear implant is a dream for my son,” said Anthony’s single mother, a teacher. “My son has struggled on a daily basis because of the way his ear looks and the fact that he cannot hear. I hope and pray that you do not view me as a charity case as I have always worked very hard for everything that I have. I just want my son back and I turn to you for help.”
Please, if you find yourself in the position to do so, make a tax-deductible gift so that Small Wonders can help Anthony. Do it today on #GivingTuesdayNow.
