We’re all too familiar with the horrors of school shootings. Now imagine that happening in a school filled with young children with autism and other developmental disabilities or delays. Children who may not understand what is happening nor have the ability to flee to safety without the direct support of a teacher or teacher’s assistant. It’s unimaginable but as we’ve unfortunately seen, anything is possible.
On October 28, I will run the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC to help secure DDI’s Early Childhood campus in Huntington. This school building was built in the 1950’s and hosts hundreds of children, many under the age of five. I recently learned that most of the classroom’s require improved safety doors and locks.
DDI has secured 90% of the $100,000 cost of the safety improvements. They’ve asked Timmy’s Team to help raise the balance to ensure a more secure campus by the end of 2018. Lock’s cost $250 each, fire safety doors $500. Any amount you contribute will help better protect these vulnerable young children from the unimaginable.
Timmy’s Team is a tribute to my son whose purpose in this world is to show the power of love. I’ve seen it through the people who care for him and through the generosity of those who have joined our past campaigns. Most importantly, I receive it in the unconditional love he offers me, our family and all who come in contact with him.
Many of you receiving this request have supported Timmy’s Team in the past - for that I am very grateful. I keep asking for your support because you keep giving, to the tune of more than $120,000 since 2014.
Please consider supporting Timmy’s Team to help us keep these young children and their caregivers safe.
With love,
Kevin
