The Ypsilanti Senior Center has been the key facility for seniors in Ypsilanti and the surrounding area for decades. The Senior Center provides services to the older adults in our community through an independent 501(c)(3) organization overseen by a board of dedicated volunteers, funding all of its staff and programs through any donations, grants, and rentals of the building it can receive. One of its major programs is a lunch service provided to seniors who are not housebound but who may have food security concerns.
Although the Senior Center has temporarily closed for in-person activities to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 through this vulnerable population, the staff and volunteers are working hard to ensure that the meals the Senior Center provides are still available for our seniors. In addition, they are doing wellness calls and working on online programming such as exercise classes. However, spring and summer are the busiest seasons for rental of the building, meaning that the Senior Center is losing significant income to cover operational and program costs at the same time it is providing this aid.
Will you help us continue to provide these critical services for the seniors in our community? Your monetary gift will ensure that seniors will continue to get a nutritious and tasty lunch, connection with others, and ongoing programming, as well as will pay for key overhead costs such as utilities and insurance. Achieving our goal of $10,000 will help the Senior Center cover the loss of rentals throughout the summer so that there is no interruption in connection and meals for seniors.
Join us in supporting our community's seniors, and share this campaign with your friends and neighbors to help us spread the word!
