The Kiwanis Club of Central Broward (KCCB) is a member of Kiwanis International, a national organization with more than 8,400 clubs in 96 countries and more than 606,608 members. The Kiwanis Club of Central Broward was chartered in 1975, comprised of service-minded men and women who respond to the unique needs of the community, and address worldwide issues by “Serving the Children of the World.” Secondary projects are for the elderly and special needs population. The COVID 19 pandemic has inhibited our physical involvement and fundraising activities that monetary support for our long-standing community service projects and service leadership programs, some of which are listed below. Projects · Christmas in July for Homeless children · Toys for Tots · Reading Books for elementary school students to 13 schools in our service area · SOS Children’s Village (provides long-term care for orphaned and abandoned children) Service Leadership Programs · Builders Clubs in middle schools where students contribute service to school and community while developing leadership and people skills. Builders Club members implement practical service-learning principles as they focus on supporting organizations that focus on the needs of children. · Key Clubs in high schools contribute service to the school and community while developing leadership and people skills, and completing hundreds of hours of community service. · The Aktion Club allow adults living with disabilities to develop initiative and leadership skills through hands-on service. These adults return to the community the benefits, help, and caring they have received. · Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Students work with their classroom teacher and establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, or schoolwork. Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, Capable. · Bring Up Grades (BUG) is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades into an acceptable range, and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next. · Summer Reading Projects- Providing books for summer reading to Kindergarten students in the 13 schools in our service area.
